This week MooShoes, the famed all-vegan shoe store with locations in New York and Los Angeles, showed off its newest venture, a 100 percent plant-based grocery store in the heart of New York City’s Bowery district.
According to local news source Bowery Boogie, “The full service vegan grocery features an all-vegan deli, shelves of various dry goods, refrigerator units, and even a soft-serve ice cream machine.”
What’s most impressive is the expansive deli counter. It includes a large array of faux meats for sandwiches, such as the Bowery, made with tofu egg and tempeh bacon. The deli also boasts the Edith, a bagel with cashew cream cheese and carrot lox, and the Marlowe, a Reuben with beet-brined seitan.
The vast deli selections are part of a larger trend in the plant-based movement. Earlier this year, a Time Money article highlighted the job vegan butcher as one that will “shape our future.” The piece spotlights the Herbivorous Butcher in Minneapolis.
Plant-based meats are widely available from companies such as Gardein, Beyond Meat, Field Roast, and Upton’s Naturals. Also, vegan restaurants and butcher shops are opening brick and mortars from coast to coast. So there’s truly never been a better time to switch to a compassionate vegan diet.
